The Cabbagetown BIA WhatsApp Community Guidelines & Rules

The Cabbagetown BIA WhatsApp Community is a shared space for local BIA member businesses to communicate with one another and with the BIA team in a timely, respectful, and constructive way.

Our goal is to support local businesses, share useful information, and strengthen our business community.

This Community may include an Announcements group for official BIA updates, a Member Discussion group for general business-to-business communication, and optional topic-specific groups related to events, initiatives, or other relevant issues.

Purpose of the Group

This WhatsApp group is intended to:

• Share time-sensitive BIA updates, alerts, and opportunities
  

• Communicate neighbourhood issues affecting businesses such as construction, disruptions, or other operational concerns

• Encourage peer-to-peer support, resource-sharing, and collaboration among local businesses
  

• Promote BIA-led events, programs, and initiatives

• Help businesses stay informed and connected as part of a stronger local network

All members are expected to:

• Be respectful, professional, and courteous
  

• Communicate in good faith
  

• Keep conversations relevant, constructive, and appropriate to the purpose of the Community
  

• Be mindful that tone can be misinterpreted in text

Posting Guidelines

Please do not post:

• Harassment, personal attacks, insults, or inflammatory language
  

• Political commentary, lobbying, campaigning, or advocacy
  

• Discriminatory, hateful, or offensive content
  

• Unverified rumours, speculation, or alarmist claims
  

• Spam, chain messages, or unrelated promotions
  

• Excessive self-promotion or repetitive sales messaging
  

• Complaints about individuals or businesses by name

• Confidential, private, or sensitive information shared without permission

Conflict & Complaints

• This Community is not the appropriate forum for resolving disputes or lodging formal complaints.
  

• If you have a sensitive issue, concern, or complaint, please contact the BIA team directly by email at bia@cabbagetownto.com or message in a direct private WhatsApp chat

• The BIA may redirect conversations offline if needed.
  

• Emergencies or urgent safety issues should be reported to the appropriate authority and not relied upon through WhatsApp alone.

Administration & Moderation

• The Community is moderated by the BIA.
  

• The BIA reserves the right to:
  

  • Remove posts that do not follow these guidelines
    

  • Contact members directly regarding concerns or misuse
    

  • Temporarily limit discussion if conversations become disruptive
    

  • Restrict posting in certain groups to admins only, where needed
    

  • Remove members after repeated or serious guideline violations
    

Moderation decisions are made to protect the integrity of the Community and the comfort of all members.

Privacy & Respect

• Do not share screenshots or content from this Community outside the group without consent.
  

• Respect confidentiality when information is shared for awareness or coordination purposes.
