Projects Assistant
Position Type: Full-Time Summer 2026 contract, with possibility of extension pending the needs of the organization and available funding
Rate of Pay: $21/hour
Schedule: ~9-5 PM; 35 hours per week; Mon-Fri, with evenings and weekends required during event time (June 11 - July 19, and Sept 12-13).

IMPORTANT: This position is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program with funding provided by Service Canada. Candidates must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (May 4). Candidates must also be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred for the duration of employment; and have a valid SIN.
ABOUT THE CABBAGETOWN BIA
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who work in partnership with the City to create thriving, competitive, and safe business areas that attract shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses. The Cabbagetown BIA is a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and cultural vitality of Cabbagetown.
JOB TITLE: PROJECTS ASSISTANT
Works as part of a close-knit team to assist the Executive Director, Marketing Manager, and Operations Coordinator in the implementation of various events and promotional campaigns to support the success of local small businesses, drive tourism, and improve the main street. This role works closely with and takes direction from the Marketing Manager and Operations Coordinator, and reports to the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities Related to Marketing and Tourism Projects:
Support the implementation of various initiatives within the Cabbagetown Tourism Strategy, including:
Assisting with the creation of a local guide for tourists and visitors.
Researching, updating, and organizing information for a tourism and business information database.
Assisting in coordinating partnerships with tourism organizations and related stakeholders.
Print and distribution of tourism materials across the downtown east and beyond.
Supporting the creation of the Events Calendar and Explore webpage.
Assist with the print, distribution, and installation of posters and promotional materials around the neighbourhood and other select locations
Update the BIA website, including editing pages, adding resources for members, and maintaining event listings
Adapt graphic designs in Canva for different digital and print formats
Complete other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities Related to Operations and Events Projects:
Provide on-the-ground support for all events and activities as a part of the Cabbagetown Pop-Up Series from June 11 - July 19 (approx 3 events per week, including evenings and weekends), including but not limited to:
Coordinating venue and event setup (including A/V, if needed), artist needs, business coordination, and visitor flow.
Monitoring the event for success.
Acting as a point of contact for facilitators, artists, venues, and attendees.
Collect photo and video content of the event, and post real-time Instagram stories.
Distributing surveys and collecting feedback, sometimes for real-time improvement.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities, as needed and if capacity permits:
Collect photo and video content for social media and assist with occasional content creation
Support social media monitoring and community management.
Assist in coordinating a Business Member Mixer and other member events.
Support streetscape realm capital projects, such as banners, gateway features, planters, murals, benches, art pieces, and more.
Monitor the neighbourhood for graffiti issues and other damages.
Assist with enlisting business members to participate in various events, including The Cabbagetown Festival.
Complete other related or administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must have 1+ years’ experience in event coordination and logistics.
Must have 1+ years’ graphic design experience with Canva.
Must have 1+ years’ experience in research.
Must have 1+ years’ experience in administration and/or project management.
Strong computer skills; proficient in G-Suite apps by Google Drive, Microsoft, MailChimp (or other email marketing software), and Squarespace.
Leadership skills and experience working in a team.
Proven ability to balance multiple assignments and tasks simultaneously.
Superior communication; written, oral, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with various stakeholders at a professional level.
Able to work with minimal direction.
Experience with social media content creation, including creating reels, TikToks, or other video or photo content, is an asset, but not required.
Must be able to work on a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as required for the completion of key project coordination goals. Various evening and weekend availability is specifically required from June 11-July 19 and September 12-13.
