Operations & Events Coordinator (Full-Time Contract)
The Cabbagetown Business Improvement Area (BIA) is hiring an Operations & Events Coordinator for a full-time 2026 contract, with the likelihood of extension if successful. This role supports key BIA initiatives including events/activations, The Cabbagetown Festival, and streetscape/public realm projects across the neighbourhood.
Pay: $24/hour
Schedule: ~9–5 PM, 35 hours/week (Mon–Fri; infrequent evenings/weekends)
Contract Dates: March 2, 2026 – December 18, 2026 (likelihood of extending)
Location: Hybrid — The Cabbagetown BIA, 237 Carlton St, Toronto

About the Cabbagetown BIA
A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who work in partnership with the City to create thriving, competitive, and safe business areas that attract shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses. The Cabbagetown BIA is a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and cultural vitality of Cabbagetown.
Role Summary
Works as part of a close-knit team while coordinating and managing key organizational initiatives, including activations and events. Coordinates some production and technical aspects of The Cabbagetown Festival. Coordinates streetscape and public realm improvements and capital projects such as murals, banners, benches, and art installations.
Key Responsibilities
Events, Festival & Programs
Participate in ideation and event concept development with the BIA team
Manage participating member businesses (contracts, payments, required health documentation for permits; booth activation support)
Manage invoicing and payments for vendors and suppliers
Recruit, train, schedule, and manage volunteers; develop year-round recruitment strategy; event debrief and volunteer appreciation; hire/manage week-of Volunteer Coordinator
Manage the operations portion of event budgets
Create measurable objectives and oversee foot traffic data collection/analysis
Coordinate the Cabbagetown Pop-Up Event Series (programming schedule, confirmations, equipment, safety plans, permits)
Manage logistics for programs such as ShopCabbagetown2Win, Remembrance Day Ceremony, Holiday in the Patch, and the AGM
Other related duties as assigned
Streetscaping & Beautification (as required)
Support streetscaping/public realm/on-street operations initiatives, including graffiti cleanup management
Maintain a public realm asset inventory and issue reporting programs
Assist with planning and installation of capital projects (banners, gateway features, planters, murals, benches, art pieces, etc.)
Coordinate with relevant agencies to address member operational concerns
Manage the Cabbagetown Street Maintenance team
Track/report on local development projects related to operations, wayfinding, accessibility, parks, urban planning, and streetscape improvements
Liaise with key stakeholders and government agencies; attend stakeholder meetings as needed (may include evenings/weekends)
Support permit applications and on-site implementation of technical details
Assist with CafeTO (may include liaising with restauranteurs and setting up live music events)
Coordinate with the Marketing Coordinator to support and publicize on-street initiatives
Other related/administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications
2–3+ years’ experience in event operations/management/logistics
Assets: urban city project management; volunteer management; government advocacy
Complimentary business-related education (culture/tourism/urban development/urban planning preferred)
Strong computer skills: G-Suite/Google Drive, Microsoft, MailChimp (or similar), Squarespace
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Organized self-starter; able to work with minimal direction
Flexible schedule as required for key project coordination goals
