EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY: PROJECTS ASSISTANT

Position Type: Full-Time Summer 2025 contract

Rate of Pay: $21/hour

Schedule: ~9-5 PM; 35 hours per week; Mon-Fri, with infrequent evenings and weekends.

ABOUT THE CABBAGETOWN BIA

A Business Improvement Area (BIA) is an association of commercial property owners and tenants within a defined area who work in partnership with the City to create thriving, competitive, and safe business areas that attract shoppers, diners, tourists, and new businesses. The Cabbagetown BIA is a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the economic and cultural vitality of Cabbagetown.

JOB TITLE: PROJECTS ASSISTANT

Works as part of a close-knit team to assist the Executive Director, Marketing Manager, and Operations Coordinator in the implementation of various events, capital projects, and promotional campaigns to support the success of local small businesses, drive tourism, and improve the main street. Reports to the Executive Director and Marketing Manager. 

Responsibilities Related to Marketing Projects:

  • Assist in putting together a digital tour of the main street, including conducting research into historic properties and conducting interviews with small business owners. 

  • Assist with the implementation of the Cabbagetown tourism plan, including the creation of a local guide for tourists and visitors. 

  • Collect photo and video content for social media, including the occasional creation of posts. 

  • Assist with social media monitoring and community management. 

  • Install posters and promotional materials around the neighbourhood and beyond. 

  • Manage updates to the BIA website: Includes editing pages and adding useful resources for members. 

  • Assist in the development and promotion of Cabbagetown merchandise sales. 

  • Complete other duties as assigned. 

Responsibilities related to Streetscaping and Operations Projects: 

  • Assist with the coordination of streetscape realm capital projects, such as pole wraps, banners, gateway features, planters, murals, benches, art pieces, curb extensions, and more. 

  • Create an inventory of all public realm assets.

  • Monitor the neighbourhood for graffiti issues and other damages.  

  • Assist with the coordination of summer programs to increase vibrancy in the neighbourhood, such as a music series or roaming performances. 

  • Assist with enlisting business members to participate in various events, including The Cabbagetown Festival.

  • Complete other related or administrative duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Must have 1+ years’ experience in event coordination and logistics. 

  • Must have 1+ years’ experience in research. 

  • Must have 1+ years’ experience in administration. 

  • Strong experience in social media or content creation is an asset. Experience creating reels, TikToks, or other video content is also an asset. 

  • Strong computer skills; proficient in G-Suite apps by Google Drive, Microsoft, MailChimp (or other email marketing software), and Squarespace.

  • Leadership skills and experience working in a team. 

  • Proven ability to balance multiple assignments and tasks simultaneously.

  • Superior communication; written, oral, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work and communicate effectively with various stakeholders at a professional level.

  • An organized self-starter, creative, and member/customer-focused.

  • Able to work with minimal direction.

  • Must be able to work on a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as required for the completion of key project coordination goals.
